Sailstar is a sailing school founded in 2010. We wrote our first book 2011 with focus on learning how to sail with dinghies (Swedish). The second book came 2016 now with more focus on how to learn to sail in keelboats but also this book in Swedish. We have so many non-Swedish participants at our courses so this book is from start a translation of that book but got 12 pages more!
The Basics of Sailing is an easy book to read with a lot of pictures and especially graphics. It starts with explaining wind, wind direction and wind strength. Next chapter is safety onboard and then we look into point of sailing. Close hauled, reach, run, how to hoist sails, how to steer.
There are also more advanced chapters about true and apparent wind, how we can go upwind, lateral drift and healing.
There are also some information about navigation and our sea charts, about right-of-way, mooring and anchoring, prop walk and knots.
The book ends with 400 sailing terms explained.
Sailing is a fantastic sport but also a great recreation activity. To make some shortcuts in the start it is good to learn how to sail and to handle your boat with some help. With this book we like to give you a kickstart in your new experience of sailing weather or not you are sailing dinghies, keelboats and if you are sailing on the lake or on the ocean.
